UNITY IN THE FAMILY
January 24, 2026Scripture Focus: Genesis 8:20–22 (KJV)
“And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD… And the LORD smelled a sweet savour… While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest… shall not cease.”
Introduction: God Seeks Genuine Worshippers
The Scriptures are clear about what God desires from His people.
In John 4:23–24 (KJV), Jesus declares that the Father seeks true worshippers—those who worship Him in spirit and in truth.
God is not looking for casual admirers or occasional seekers. He desires people who:
• Serve Him sincerely,
• Love Him for who He is, not merely for what He gives,
• Pursue a relationship, not just benefits.
True thanksgiving flows from a heart that genuinely knows God.
When Thanksgiving Is Not Genuine
Not all praise pleases God.
Jesus warns in Matthew 15:8 (KJV):
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth… but their heart is far from me.”
Life teaches us that people can praise you passionately when they expect something in return. The same crowd that shouted “Hosanna!” later cried “Crucify Him!”
Even Judas used a kiss—an expression of affection—as a tool of betrayal.
This reveals a sobering truth: words alone do not define genuine thanksgiving; the heart does.
Intentional Thanksgiving in a New Year
As we step into a new year, thanksgiving must be intentional.
You did not bring yourself or your family into this season—God did.
Like Noah, you were preserved in the Ark of God’s mercy, safety, and protection.
After the flood, Noah’s first recorded action was not celebration, but sacrifice. His thanksgiving acknowledged God as his:
• Divine protector
• Sustainer
• Source of security
This sincere act moved God to establish a covenant of mercy and continuity with Noah and all generations after him.
The Covenant Power of Sincere Thanksgiving
When thanksgiving comes from a sincere heart, it moves God to:
• Renew His covenant of mercy,
• Release protection and provision,
• Establish fruitfulness and continuity.
God responded to Noah’s sacrifice with a powerful promise:
As long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest will not cease.
Thanksgiving as an Expression of Love
The life of Solomon further illustrates this truth.
In 1 Kings 3:3–5 (KJV), Solomon demonstrated his love for God through extravagant sacrifice. His thanksgiving was not casual—it was costly.
As a result, God appeared to him and said:
“Ask what I shall give thee.”
Sincere thanksgiving reveals our love for God.
What we give—and how we give—reflects the depth of that love.
When God recognizes thanksgiving as a true expression of love, He responds with:
• The blessings we ask for, and
• The blessings we didn’t even know we needed.
Conclusion: Thanksgiving Is for Our Good
We can never thank God enough.
A life committed to doing God’s will, serving Him more intentionally, and loving Him deeply is the highest form of thanksgiving.
As we move forward, let thanksgiving not just be something we say—but something we live.
Thanksgiving Focus Points
1. Thank God for His mercy, goodness, protection, and provision.
2. Thank Him because your future is secure in His hands, and He will give you an expected end.
3. Thank Him because He is committed to blessing, prospering, and preserving you and your family.
