If God Be for Us: Seeing, Speaking, and Standing from the Place of Victory
October 15, 2025Lamentations 3:19–24 (ESV)
“Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’”
A Reason to Be Grateful
One truth about life is this — everyone has a prayer point. No one is exempt from challenges, regardless of age, gender, or social status. Each of us has a story that includes both mountaintops and valleys.
But in all these, God remains faithful. What you’re facing is not unique to you; someone else has gone through it, and God brought them out.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)
So, no matter what you are going through, don’t let your present situation blind you to the many blessings of God in your life.
Don’t let what you lack make you forget what you have.
Don’t let what’s yet to happen make you ignore what God has already done.
If voices around you, or even within you begin to highlight what hasn’t worked, silence them with your testimony. Remind yourself (and the devil) of how God showed up for you in times past. Even if it was years ago, that same God has not changed.
As the local adage wisely puts it, “It is the person who knows how to think deeply that will know how to truly thank God.”
Choosing Gratitude in the Midst of Struggle
The writer of Lamentations understood this truth. Surrounded by sorrow, he still found hope by calling something to mind:
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.”
When life tells you that there’s no reason to be thankful, that’s when you should look back. Remember those moments when you thought it was over — yet here you are, still standing.
David did the same. When he faced Goliath, he didn’t focus on how big the giant was; he remembered the times God had already delivered him.
“The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
— 1 Samuel 17:37 (ESV)
Gratitude is strengthened by memory. When we recall God’s past faithfulness, we renew our present confidence.
Why We Must Give Thanks
1. Because God Is Merciful and Faithful:
God doesn’t change even when we do. His faithfulness is constant, His commitment to us unshakable.
“For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” — Malachi 3:6 (ESV)
2. Because We Survived What Could Have Destroyed Us:
You may feel like you’re in the fire, but remember: you’re not alone.
“When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” — Isaiah 43:2 (ESV)
Just like the three Hebrew boys, God is with you in the flames; ensuring you come out refined, not ruined.
3. Because God Will Not Let Any Trial Destroy You:
Whatever comes your way, God has already built an escape route into it.
“God is faithful… with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)
4. Because God Has Done It Before:
Every testimony; whether yours or someone else’s, is proof that God can do it again.
“God is not a man, that He should lie… hath He said, and shall He not do it?” — Numbers 23:19 (KJV)
5. Because Thanksgiving Is Our Duty:
We were created for His pleasure, to give Him glory and praise.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.” — Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
In Everything, Give Thanks
Gratitude is not an occasional act; it’s a way of life. God’s will for us is that thanksgiving becomes the language of our hearts, regardless of our circumstances.
“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
So today, whether you’re on the mountain or in the valley, take a moment to think deeply and you’ll see countless reasons to thank God.
His mercies are new every morning. His love never runs out. His faithfulness never fails. And that, is enough reason to give thanks. If this message blessed you, share it with someone who needs a reminder that God’s faithfulness never ceases.
